Liver Disease

Approximately 29 million people in Europe suffer from a chronic liver condition. Diagnosis and monitoring of liver function is of utmost importance: untreated, liver diseases can be fatal.  Liver damage is mainly caused either by medication (HIV, malaria, tuberculosis treatments etc.) viruses (Hep B or C), alcohol abuse or obesity.  Liver function tests (LFTs) include the measurement of enzyme activity (e.g. AST, ALT) and protein levels (e.g. albumin, direct and total bilirubin). Both are necessary to assess the function of the liver and to diagnose or monitor diseases.

Levels Dx is identifying novel biomarkers to assess liver function and is developing innovative rapid diagnostic tools in collaboration with experts from academica and the industry.
